Addiction
Addiction can come in many different forms, commonly food, alcohol, drugs, relationships, gambling and social media. It is a dependence that becomes so strong you become reliant on to function daily. Unfortunately, some know they are addicted, and some are oblivious.
What happens inside the brain involves neurotransmitters, brain chemicals that act as uppers and downers. Let's discuss a couple; you've probably heard of dopamine and serotonin. They are necessary feel-good chemicals in our brain. Food, alcohol, drugs, relationships all activate them.
Ideally, we want certain amounts in the body. But, unfortunately, we can run out before our body gets a chance to make more, or we wear out the valves that control the release. We then keep going back to the addiction because we try to get a fix that never really comes. Our brains are too depleted.
So what do we need to make more? Amino acids, as well as vitamins and minerals, and are all part of a healthy diet. How do we repair the valve? Stop doing what damages it, and over time it will repair. Easier said than done!
Brain Gut Connect can help you establish your neurotransmitter levels using two tests. A questionnaire and a urine sample which you can complete at home. Depending on your results, we can prescribe personalised nutrients to help top up deficient brain chemicals and increase your body's ability to repair.
